More Info About This Event
Only 6% of students entering a Chicago public high school will receive a Bachelor’s degree by age 25. In response to this alarming finding by the University of Chicago in 2006, Center for Companies That Care launched AIM High, a ground-breaking initiative to ensure that 100% of participating students will attend and graduate from a four-year college.
On Wednesday, April 4 at 5:30pm, in Grant Park, Companies That Care is holding the Inaugural "March to College" 5K Run/Walk benefitting AIM High. The purpose of the March is to motivate college attendance among underprivileged, school-age, minority youth. Research has repeatedly shown that one of the biggest reasons low-income, minority students don’t go to college is because they never felt it was expected it of them. The March to College will change that. Each year, student walkers will receive a t-shirt that says “College Bound” until one year, they matriculate to the T-shirt that says “In College,” and eventually earn the right to wear the “College Graduate” t-shirt.
About the Beneficiary AIM High is a long-term structured, more-than-mentoring program dedicated to dramatically improving college graduation rates among urban youth by matching teams of employees with individual, vulnerable, minority high school students to ensure they graduate from college and are prepared for tomorrow’s workplace.
Center for Companies That Care is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of individuals, families and communities.
