 On June 22-24, 2003 Center for Companies That Care conducted a "bucket survey" at the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) conference in Orlando, Florida. Each visitor to the booth was asked to decide which of the 10 Characteristics of Companies That Care his or her organization did best and then to drop a card into the bucket representing their choice. Five hundred forty-eight (548) people participated in the survey. The chart below reveals the frequency with which each Characteristic received a "best" vote.
What is most interesting from the overall findings is that not one of the ten Characteristics was chosen overwhelmingly. While developing great bosses only accounted for 3% of the responses, getting involved in community endeavors, appreciating and recognizing contributions of people who work there, and sustaining a work environment founded on dignity and respect each represent 15-16% of the total and together represent almost half the responses. From this informal survey, we are able to establish a baseline of strengths and opportunities for companies that intend to become a Company That Cares. The Companies That Care Exchange uses the information gathered from our bucket surveys in our strategic planning to ensure the learning opportunities address the needs of our members.

n = 548
Please note: unlike the bucket survey results, the Companies That Care Honor Roll is a list of all organizations that actively practice all ten of the 10 Characteristics of Companies That Care. The organizations on the Honor Roll have been selected through an independent, validated review process. Applications are reviewed annually.
