Take out your calendars and open your hearts to the work we are doing and the impact we are making.
We are proud of what we are accomplishing:
- With at-risk high school students, through our AIM High Education Initiative;
- With employers, through our Road Shows;
- For individuals, through our Book Club; and
- For the community, through our annual CareDays.
And, we have many, many more ideas on the docket.
In order to make it all work, we need funds. Please click here to make a donation to Center for Companies That Care.
As this newsletter reaches you, I'm thinking about my family's Thanksgiving that rotates annually among the five cities in which we all live. I hope you, too, have much in your life to give thanks for. I think about all of you and the many ways you help Companies That Care pursue our mission. I am thankful you are part of our journey.
With warm regards, Marci |

| NOTED AUTHOR JOINS DECEMBER 16th VIRTUAL BOOK CLUB |
|
On December 16th, from 12-1 CT, we will discuss: Relentless Pursuit: A Year in the Trenches with Teach for America.

We will be joined by the author, Donna Foote, for what promises to be an enlightening and thought-provoking discussion.
This book is "A revealing look inside a national phenomenon, Teach For America, which, since its founding in 1990, has pursued one of the most daring-and controversial-strategies for closing the educational achievement gap between the richest and poorest students in the country."
This book is non-fiction that reads like fiction as it traces the lives of four teachers in their first year at Locke High School in Los Angeles.
Click here to sign up even if you don't think you'll get through the book in time. |

Get Ready for Terrific Tales '09
The bar is set. During last year's CareDays, 22 participating companies provided classroom libraries for over 40 classrooms in underserved schools. Click here to read more about Terrific Tales.
Companies were amazed at the number of books we were able to purchase on their behalf; schools were amazed at how many libraries we created; students were amazed by having new books they could bring home; and lives were enriched by the relationships we created.
Terrific Tales will kick off March 19, 2009. Please build this worthwhile and meaningful program in to your 2009 planning and look for more details on how to participate in our next newsletter. |

AIM HIGH SOPHMORES GET ORIENTED TO WORK |
|
Recently we held a terrific AIM High
event to kick off the sophmore's school year. We took advantage of a school vacation day and conducted a full
day program which included:
- a mock first day of work orientation;
- building a
business activity; and
- interviewing practice.
Students enjoyed the
whole day and found particular value from the individualized interviewing
feedback they received.
