Opportunities abound as we head into fall. Kids have the opportunity to start a new school year. And, as you'll read below, we each have the opportunity to make a difference in kids' lives and in the ways in which we and our organizations participate in the community.

Many programs that we've been working on through the summer are now ready for your involvement.  AIM High, Best Practices Road Show, the Social Responsibility certificate, and the 2009 Honor Roll applications to name a few.  Please take note of the variety of opportunities you have to participate in Companies That Care activities....and join in.

Here's to enjoying each remaining day of summer!

Why is AIM High a hit with high school students?
Hear directly from them from viewing this 4-minute YouTube video.

Why is AIM High a hit with employee mentors?
Here's what one mentor says:

"I deeply believe that we can positively influence our student's lives.  I recommend getting involved with AIM High.
  • Because it's a four year program we're able to really connect with our students and stay with them through their entire high school journey;
  • The time commitment is manageable.  We meet with the students every four to six weeks and email them in between;
  • The team mentoring concept works well.  Although I was originally skeptical, with everyone's busy schedules, it's good to know there's always other people who can fill in for you;
  • Because this program directly addresses the educational "potholes" identified in a 2008 University of Chicago study:
  • It's a great way to get to know the people you work with."

Three-hundred (300) students from two Chicago schools are eager to participate in the Center for Companies That Care mentoring program. While the ultimate goal is to match every freshman at Urban Prep and Woodlawn High Schools in Chicago with a corporate mentor, participation will be limited by the number of mentors and amount of financial support in place by the start of the 2008-2009 school year.

Students' dreams and their potential are only limited by YOUR participation.
