We Want Your Input

Kids are back to school and Center for Companies That Care is hard at work providing high-quality programming for you to take advantage of.

We hope one of your goals for this season is to try a program, or apply to be an Honor Roll company, or get better at achieving even one additional Characteristic!

Let us know what we can do to help you achieve your goal!
Center for Companies That Care Urban High School Mentoring Initiative on the Move
In early October, Center for Companies That Care is kicking off our very exciting mentoring initiative. So far we have secured dozens of mentors and sponors to participate with students from Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men, in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood, and Woodlawn High School, in Chicago's Woodlawn neighborhood. The goal of the initiative is to help ensure that disadvantaged high school students graduate from high school, and get TO, and THROUGH, college.

September 15th is the LAST DAY to signup to be a mentor for this school year  (companies that can commit to adopting a student for a four-year period). We are able to accept sponsors (companies that can make a $5,000 commitment to sponsor a student) for slightly longer.

This program has been met with great enthusiasm by educators, administrators and students. It fills a necessary gap in the students' educational process and helps us all to train the workforce of the future.

Click here for additional information on this very exciting program. Click here to hear the student themselves talk about why this is important to their future.

Please contact Marci Koblenz for additional information and/or to become a sponsor or mentor.

What we Learned in our August Teleconference
Volunteerism/Laughter and Fun in the Workplace
Here are some of the things we learned when Cheryl Thomas, SVP HR from Johnson Financial, joined us in August:
  • Volunteerism works best when it is locally driven
  • Community involvement and fun and laughter can be integrated into everything a company does...from mission statements to hiring criteria
  • Celebration is ongoing...and doesn't have to be tied to holidays and poking fun is fun.
  • Volunteer activities are effective development activities
  • A more engaged workforce drives business...and new employee referrals

We thank Cheryl for sharing her powerful stories. Cheryl is willing to speak with anyone who is interested in learning more. If you would like to arrange a meeting with her, click here.

CAREDAYS 2008
CAREDAYS - no year - logo

In 2008, CAREDAYS will celebrate the Caregivers in our midst. CAREDAYS will kick off on Companies That Care Day, March 20, 2008. We will provide thoughts on how to celebrate those people in our workplaces that spend much of their time outside of work helping those in need. Stay tuned for more information.
