As the weather heats up, so does
the interest in Center for Companies That Care
activities. Please take note of upcoming events and
particularly the opportunity to help kids get to and
stay in college. |
| Center for Companies That Care
Urban High School Mentoring Initiative on the
Move |
|
| This fall, Center for Companies
That Care will begin matching corporate mentors
with students from Urban Prep Charter Academy for
Young Men, in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood, and
Woodlawn High School, in Chicago's Woodlawn
neighborhood. The goal of the initiative is to help
ensure that disadvantaged high school students graduate
from high school, and get TO, and THROUGH,
college.
We have already secured mentors (companies
that can commit to adopting a student for a four-year
period) and sponsors (companies that can make a $5,000
commitment to sponsor a student) but need more in order
to meet the students' needs.
This program has been met with great enthusiasm by
educators, administrators and students. It fills a
necessary gap in the students' educational process and
helps us all to train the workforce of the future.
additional information on this very exciting program and
to hear the students themselves talk about why this is
important to their future.
Please contact Marci Koblenz for
additional information and/or to become a sponsor or
mentor. |

Companies That Care extends congratulations to Honor Roll
company Triangle Printers for
recent recognition for excellence.
TRIANGLE HONORED WITH FOUR INTERNATIONAL PRINT
AWARDS
Triangle Printers Inc. is proud to announce that it
has been awarded four separate Communicator Awards for
excellence in print production.
An Award of Excellence in the Invitation category was
given to Triangle for "Party with Peerless," a
distinctive die-cut boxed invitation, including
keychain, produced for client Peerless Industries.
A second Award of Excellence was awarded to Triangle
in the Cover Design category for "Optimizing HIV
Therapy," an embossed, foil-stamped piece produced
on behalf of the Discovery Institute of Medical
Education (DIME).
In addition to the two Awards of Excellence, Triangle
was also honored with two Communicator Awards of
Distinction; the first, in the Capabilities category,
for "222 Riverside Plaza," a unique and colorful
folder/insert package for real estate client
Trammell-Crow. The second, in the Campaign category,
went to Triangle for "Personal Audio Campaign," a
stunning folder/insert piece produced for audio products
client Shure Inc.
Says Bonnie Dayan, Triange vice president, "We
submit work throughout the year for various recognition
awards. When we receive awards, we announce the
accomplishments and post them for all to see. In
doing so, we feel we are supporting Companies That Care
Characteristics 2 and 7: Making employees feel
their jobs are important and appreciating and
recognizing the contributions of people who work here.
Without our employees' daily efforts to do their best
job, we would not be in a position to be favored with
these prestigious awards."

| We are making a
difference! |
|
| Read the following memo we received
indicating the ways in which Center for Companies That
Care can and is making a difference in one
workplace...think about a difference we can make in
yours!
Date: August 2, 2007
Last week, after I had one of my periodic
tantrums, someone placed a Center for Companies That
Care brochure on my chair. Several statements in
the brochure were circled - all stating the importance
of showing courtesy and respect to co-workers.
I don't know who placed the brochure on my chair
but I want tell that person, and the rest of you,
that:
- I whole-heartedly approve of what you did
-- it was very effective in reminding me that tantrums
are acceptable for 2 year olds but not others.
- I apologize for losing my cool.
- While I cannot promise never to do so again -
changing behavior at my age is not easy - I will try
to do so.
- If I ever lose it again, call me on it.
There are a supply of brochures which you can use or,
better, tell me directly. Not only will I not
hold it against you, I will respect you for doing
so.
