There Are Heroes Among Us...
AIM High Mentor Honored by Lawyers Lend a Hand for Being a 'Hero'
Center for Companies That Care is delighted to announce AIM High Mentor, and Companies That Care Board Member, Steve Miller was recently awarded the 'Making a Difference Award' presented by Lawyers Lend a Hand at the annual My Hero Award Luncheon on September 20th, 2012. The award honors "leadership and commitment in one-on-one mentoring and tutoring". Steve was nominated by fellow colleagues at McDermott, Will & Emery and Companies That Care.
The award honors legal professionals who "make a profound impact on young people's lives to enable them to reach their full potential and provide them with the tools to avoid the criminal justice system...and help end the cycle of poverty." Companies That Care and AIM High are proud to say Steve does just that and more on behalf of all AIM High students.
Marci Koblenz, President of Center for Companies That Care, was honored to present Steve with the 'Making a Difference Award'; she celebrated Steve's dedication to his mentees during his six years as a mentor, and cited his ability to go above and beyond to ensure each student thrives both during and after their time in the AIM High program.
A'Shonti McKinney, an AIM High alumnus and McDermott, Will & Emery mentee described her mentor relationship with Steve, "In AIM High...mentors are expected to attend events every month, but as we know, life happens and we cannot always make it. Steve always made it...For never disappointing me, for pushing me when I needed to be pushed, for caring even when I did not deserve it, Steve will always be my hero."
Congratulations to Steve; we are proud and humbled by your unwavering support and advocacy on behalf of the students and families of AIM High and everyone at Center for Companies That Care!
